La famiglia Humbrecht ha lavorato sulle colline dell'Alsazia per molto tempo, ma per lo più come umili coltivatori di uva, senza mai imbottigliare o marchiare il vino con il proprio nome. Le cose sono cambiate con il matrimonio tra Léonard Humbrecht e Geneviève Zind.
Questo Riesling Grand Cru è di un giallo intenso e vivido e presenta un naso esplosivo di pietra focaia, polvere da sparo e mela. Al palato presenta note di limone, lime e buccia di mela verde, con una consistenza salina leggermente viscosa. Tuttavia, questo vino è unico per la sua profondità di minerali e fumo. È asciutto fino all'osso, con un finale lungo ed esaltante. Si tratta di un esempio di prima classe di uno dei migliori vigneti dell'Alsazia ed è perfetto per le grandi occasioni o per essere conservato a lungo. È degno di essere bevuto da solo, ma sarà fantastico anche con Camembert, Brie o una salsa cremosa.
Negli anni '60 e '70, il Domaine Zind-Humbrecht ha puntato a ringiovanire la regione dell'Alsazia. Raccolse diverse parcelle abbandonate, alcune delle quali sono diventate dei moderni Grand Cru. Il Rangen de Thann è uno di questi, un vigneto di rarissima qualità, situato nella parte più meridionale dell'Alsazia.
